General Comments

Having visited Dubai numerous times during the past few years, I have found The Dental Spa to be the perfect "one stop" clinic for both routine and emergency needs for the traveler. How fortunate are the residents of Dubai to have such a professional and state of the art facility available on a regular basis.

I have had both necessary and elective dental work by both Dr. Amer and Dr. Hommossany and I cannot begin to say enough about the efficiency, quality, and finished product results. A totally painless experience for a necessary root canal. Foot and hand massages were so nice I actually fell asleep during the procedure. I have had the pleasure of having both cleaning and whitening of my teeth by Hilary, the delightful hygienist who did a fabulous job.

Dr. Raslan the Chiropractor has come to my back's rescue more than once after carrying heavy luggage associated with my travels. I am always met with a very professional, cheerful, and helpful staff . I couldn't be any more pleased with my experiences at The Dental Spa.

Dentistry

To say I am extremely anxious about seeing the dentist would be an understatement , so spotting an advert for a painless dentist was a Godsend. After a very nervous chat with the receptionist, who was lovely and so reassuring, I met with Dr Amer. I had a thorough non invasive examination and was advised to have all my metal fillings removed (which there were a lot of !) and replaced with white ones. With Dr Amer's wonderful sedation and his patience, he achieved this. Having all the metal removed enabled me to have any future fillings done with the laser. The laser fillings have been a revelation they really are painless and very quick . The Dental Spa has a tranquil setting and doesn't even smell like a dentist and for us nervous folk that certainly helps . Knowing I can have these treatments has made it possible for me to visit the dentist on a regular basis, I am not saying that I like it but Dr Amer and his team really are great! I found myself in the Middle East with a lot of stops through Dubai and a great deal of self-consciousness about my teeth, which were stained and cracked with one quite noticeable restoration on a front tooth. I had heard and read about Lumineers, but was very apprehensive about veneers of any type. I did some research and found The Dental Spa did the type of work I wanted to consider, so I made an appointment for a consult. What followed took time, patience and a moderate outlay of cash, but it changed the way I look at myself. I smile more now – and it’s a pretty nice feeling. During the initial consult, I met with Dr Amer and from the first meeting he placed me at ease. He is an intelligent man and a consummate professional, but he’s also patient, kind and takes the time to explain each procedure before he approaches it. He did the consult and explained that he couldn’t simply slap veneers on – it was more than he could but that it would be unethical to spend money on such a procedure until he corrected underlying problems involving my bite and other dental work that needed fixing. He laid out a plan and talked candidly about expenses. They replaced my metal fillings, straightened my teeth and fixed my bite with Invisalign – which is an amazing, invisible and largely painless alternative to traditional braces. The office is fantastic, bathed in blues and relaxed silence. The staff is friendly and efficient. No matter when I swing through Dubai they always seem to find time to see me – or they make time. But what really makes this work is Dr Amer. He is so attentive to my discomfort that he notices changes in my breathing and he always waits for me to relax. With other dentists I’ve felt like I was a car in a garage, but Dr Amer always treats me with respect – I feel like he would if I were family. Regarding the Lumineers, I’ve had them for about two weeks now. At first, I won’t lie to you I was a little taken aback by how white and straight my teeth were. It’s taken me some time to get used to my teeth looking this good – no, not good – great. And they are tougher than I expected with no heat or cold sensitivity whatsoever. Having used a UK NHS Dentist all my life I had a mouth full of metal, discoloured chipped teeth and distinctively visible areas where surface enamel was missing due to heavy brushing. I avoid visits to the dentist and as long as I am not in pain all is well, a reluctant check up and a clean maybe once a year ish. I was reasonably happy with this situation but always admired good healthy white smiles and even tried using a whitening kit once but it did not have very good results. So what about JAFZ? Well, that is were my mail box is, and during one visit all over the mail box room floor were flyers with pictures of beautiful Film Star Smiles, I could not help but notice the perfectly formed white teeth. The flyer offered a free consultation and as I am new to Dubai and needed a dentist I thought I would kill two birds with one stone, have a check up and clean but more importantly find out how I can get the Film Star Smile that’s on the flyer. Enter Dr. Amer; who advised me that my mouth should not have any metal in it at all, it’s not healthy, I needed several fillings and a bridge. He also assured me that all this work could be carried out painlessly plus if I chose I could also have the same Film Star Smile as the man in the flyer. WOW! Now apprehension, vanity and common sense were playing tug of war with my wallet. I needed the fillings, the bridge I can live without, the film star smile would be fabulous to have but what about the pain and the fee’s. Well, Dr. Amer offered local anaesthetic to avoid the pain during the dentistry work but could not offer any for my wallet. What the hell, I want that smile! I was greedy and had all the work done in four sittings. No pain, lots of apprehension that was immediately quashed by Dr. Amer’s relaxing vibrating chair, ceiling mounted plasma screen showing lots of tropical fish plus his re assuring running commentary about all the work he was doing. He told me I was very brave and I believe his nose has grown an inch or two since his reassuring words were spoken. So what happened when I let my smile loose on the general public? People notice but are too polite to comment, family and friends think the end results are fantastic and I can’t stop smiling. No pain and a Film Star Smile. Mark N. ,Dubai, UAE

In Winter of 2005 I finally plucked up the courage to contact the Dental SPA, Dubai, UAE / Dr. Amer, having just received some information which my sister (who lives there) had seen in a magazine about the Dental SPA. She felt I would benefit from such a service. I should firstly make a very relevant point here, I am 'petrified' to say the least of dentists/dental visits - following bad experiences as a child. Over the years my fear has only minimally subsided, but really only in so much as I can get myself into the surgery now (I used to have to wait outside until I was called for my appointment). My impression on reading the article was - 'wow' they certainly know how to calm a patient down and relax - they seem to want to help them...not what I feel in the UK unfortunately - to me, I get the feeling it's a case of: 'like it or lump it' or 'sorry we can't do this, or that' or 'if you are not happy - try another dentist' - not what you want or need, to hear for sure. Over the next month or so, emails were sent from UK to UAE, and I should say that all my emails were replied to immediately - always putting me at ease, always reassuring me - I felt comfortable, to the extent I decided to book my flights and Dr. Amer booked my initial appointment to suit...assuring me that all my treatment would be carried out within my time limit there. Dr. Amer kept in constant touch during the next few weeks - right up until I was due to leave the UK. The day I arrived, I had my check-up. I arrived at the Dental Spa, met by Sandy, Receptionist - she had a gleaming smile. I was offered a drink by another employee all while I waited in the open-plan waiting room - where comfortable, cream leather furniture welcomed me, together with a relaxing aroma. Dr. Amer arrived at the surgery (I was his first appointment of the day), before he went to his surgery - he came across and shook my hand firmly (again reassuring), and smiled...welcoming me and making me feel at ease. A few minutes later Neha, Dr. Amer's Dental Assistant came to escort me to the surgery - up the stairs which were adorned by aroma candles. My sister came with me as my 'back-up' and we both sat and chatted to Dr. Amer, discussing what outcome I wanted to see at the end of the treatment, it was paramount that I would leave happy with the results. There was quite a bit of work to be done, I wanted all metal fillings renewed and replaced with white, I wanted 4 front teeth veneered and a crown replaced - bearing all this in mind, my part-denture (partial) would be best to be renewed also to look as natural as possible. Three 2-hour appointments were made to have the work completed, at the same time, due to my nervousness, a sedative tablet was administered somewhere between 30-40 minutes prior to each visit, this just helped ease the process. I felt fine, each visit I was made to feel relaxed, you couldn't really not feel relaxed lying back in the dental chair which had a massage chair pad attached, coupled together with the option of a warm neck pillow and the soft music (you have a choice), the plasma screens (you have a choice) and water feature trickling in the background, the lights dimmed and ready for treatment. NOTHING......was done until I was ready for Dr. Amer to proceed, and if I felt I wanted a 'breather' it was no problem...he talked me through each step. All in all, my experience was exceptionally professional, pain-free and indeed a pleasure. I finished my treatment, within the timescale given - and as was promised, with a big smile on my face, and haven't stopped smiling since! I should say, although I'm a happy person and love to laugh and smile, I used to 'hide' my smile due to the discolouration of my teeth in the past - not any more! P. G. Aberdeen, Scotland

Dermatology

I had battled with being overweight for 14 years. On my wedding day (1988), I weighed in at 52 kilos. I am only 165 cms tall. By the time my son was born (1989), I was almost double my size at 100 kilos. I promised myself it wouldn't happen with my next pregnancy. By the time I delivered my baby girl (1995), I weighed 97 kilos. In 2003, at 80 kilos, I decided to make a determined effort to lose weight and get healthier. This of course was easier said than done as I had neglected myself and spent all my time on work and being a wife/mother. I decided to diet and exercise and 6 months later reached my goal weight of 57kilos. I lost my excess weight but "gained" excess skin. It was hanging everywhere. After much research and subsequent consultations with several cosmetic surgeons, I managed to address this. But now my face needed attention. The loss of fat from my face highlighted the damage caused by years of smoking, drinking, excessive eating, and tanning. In spite of having a slimmer body, my face looked older beyond its years. My cosmetic surgeon tried to help with Botox and fillers but it didn’t make the difference I wanted, and a face-lift was not something I would consider. She recommended I see a dermatologist. Six Fraxel treatments, several Botox injections and many thousands of dollars later, I still wasn’t satisfied. In January 2008, I was invited to a Botox evening at the Dental Spa. I had heard good things about this clinic as both my husband and daughter were very pleased with their pain-free dentistry treatments. Not knowing that the clinic offered more than dental care, I was intrigued by the invitation to meet their Dermatologist who is also an anti aging expert. That evening I met Dr. Khaled El-Hoshy. I have as they say, never looked back, and my face has never looked better. Dr. El-Hoshy has taken 10 to 15 years off my appearance. Friends who haven't seen me in years ask if I've had a facelift and several of my doctors have asked for his contact details. When I tell people I have lived in Dubai for 30 years, they think I came here as a young girl. Dr. El-Hoshy is truly gifted.
